The all new affordable taxi rates in Houston are going to be effective from March 1, 2012. In the City of Houston regulated taxi meter rate is $2.75 for the first 1/11 mile, and $0.20 for each additional 1/11 mile ($4.75 for the first mile and $2.20 for every mile thereafter). People 60 and older receive a 5% discount on fares. Waiting is calculated on the taxi meter at $0.50 per minute ($35.00 Per Hour). There is an additional $1 surcharge on all trips which commence between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
